TRANSAMERICAN WASTE INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES OPTION TO ACQUIRE LANDFILL
HOUSTON, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- TransAmerican Waste Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTE), today announced that it has signed an option to acquire a solid waste landfill located in Jefferson County in the southeastern portion of the state of Ohio.
The landfill, a double lined, rail served facility located approximately 40 miles from Pittsburgh is permitted to accept municipal solid waste as well as special waste including industrial sludge and contaminated soils. The landfill is located on a 970 acre site with four cells under permit and an expansion request approved for additional cell construction. The expansion will provide approximately 20 million yards of airspace. Pending approval by the Ohio Department of Environmental Protection, the site would be able to accept up to 1,750 tons per day, which would allow the site to operate for over 20 years.
The facility has not operated for the past 20 months due to a dispute between the Ohio EPA and the current owner. The facility has continued to be maintained and could reopen and begin to accept waste shortly after receiving the necessary permits.
TransAmerican Waste Industries, Inc. is engaged in a variety of waste management activities, including the processing and disposal of wastewater sludge, construction of special waste disposal sites, environmental engineering, consulting, and design of water pollution control equipment. TransAmerican is also aggressively pursuing acquisitions in the solid waste management industry. The Company's common stock is traded under the NASDAQ symbol WSTE.
