DALLAS, July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Trammell Crow International in Dallas in partnership with a Forman/Deutsch venture, major commercial real estate developers in South Florida, announced plans today to develop the Florida International Trade Mart next to the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.
Trammel S. Crow, CEO of Trammell Crow International, made the official announcement to build a state-of-the-art, 600,000 square foot merchandise mart in Broward County, one of South Florida's fastest growing business communities.
Trammell Crow Interests has long been synonymous with success in developing, marketing and managing trade marts around the world. Its Dallas Market Center occupies more than 10 million square feet of space and is the largest in the world.
"The international business climate of Broward County and Fort Lauderdale, coupled with the city's excellent transportation sources and its attractive tourist amenities made the development of an international merchandise mart a viable option for the fashion and gift industries," Crow commented in making the announcement.
Boasting a metropolitan area population of 4 million, the Greater Fort Lauderdale area is centrally located between Palm Beach and Miami and is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies.
Slated for opening in September 1995, the new mart will be situated just steps away from the north end of Port Everglades, the world's second busiest cruise port and one of Florida's busiest container ports.
Key to the decision to build on the convention center site is its 5-minute access to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport and location at the juncture of all the major highways in Florida, i.e., I-595 connects with I-95, the Florida Turnpike and I-75, providing easy accessibility to the mart facility.
The new mart will be devoted primarily to women's, children's and men's apparel and accessories on three of the five floors. Some 3,750 lines are expected to be permanently housed in over 350,000 square feet at the mart.
Another 1,250 giftware and decorative accessories lines will be located on a separate floor consisting of over 100,000 square feet. Additional space will be allocated for temporary exhibits.
Serving the trade mart tenants, buyers and convention centers will be food service facilities, as well as buyer lounges and food and beverage areas on all floors. The mart's location next to the convention center will afford it the opportunity to take advantage of the center's excellent trade show amenities, including the center's ballroom and meeting rooms, the largest in Broward County.
The Florida International Trade Mart will be served by covered parking for more than 2,500 cars, as well as ample on-site parking next to the facility. More than 4,000 hotel rooms are located within five minutes of the mart, with future plans calling for a headquarters hotel complex next to the facility.
Consistent with Trammell Crow's track record to attract buyers to its markets, the mart will be supported by numerous innovative buyer marketing and promotion programs which have been the cornerstone of Crow's international trade mart success.
"In building the Florida International Trade Mart, we are responding to the growing global needs of the apparel and giftware industries. It is this industry responsiveness that has kept us at the forefront of trade mart development from Kobe, Japan to Brussels and Dallas in between," observed Richard Lalla, vice president of Trade Center Development for Trammell Crow International. "We are committed to furthering the success of this project."
Trammell Crow Company was founded in 1948 in Dallas by Trammell Crow and began developing marts in 1955.
