TRACOR TAPS MCI FOR VOICE, DATA COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES

AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracor, Inc., a leading electronics and technical services company, has signed a four-year contract with MCI (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC), expanding Tracor's voice and data services to include its newly acquired subsidiary, Rockville, Md.-based Vitro Corporation.
Its new contract, valued at $4.8 million, makes MCI the primary provider of telecommunications services for Tracor's 9,000 employees located across the United States. Tracor will continue to use MCI's Vnet (virtual network) service for its communications services. Under terms of the new contract, MCI will also supply Tracor with 800 service and dedicated leased lines.
In addition, Tracor will use MCI HyperStream Frame Relay, which provides cost-effective high-speed data transfer capabilities on demand over its data network. It is designed for high-volume intracompany communications that have traditionally been carried on more costly private line networks.
"With this contract, we will count on MCI to provide us with wide- area voice and data services in a more cost-effective and efficient way, while preserving high-quality telecommunications," James B. Skaggs, president of Tracor, said.
Tracor is a leader in the defense contracting industry, supporting the systems engineering, design, production, integration, operation and maintenance of electronic systems for ships, aircraft, missiles and complex computer systems.
"We're pleased Tracor has selected MCI," Omar Leeman, vice president of sales for MCI Business Markets, said. "With this agreement, Tracor is assured it will receive the finest products and service MCI has to offer."
MCI Business Markets, formed as MCI Business Services in August 1992, is based in Atlanta and provides long distance voice, data and video telecommunications to America's businesses. The largest operating unit in the MCI family, Business Markets recently launched Proof Positive, an industry innovation that established a new benchmark in the way long distance service is provided and savings proven to customers.
MCI Communications Corporation, headquartered in Washington, D.C., was incorporated in 1968 and was the first company authorized by the FCC to compete with AT&T in the domestic long distance market. Today, MCI is a $10.5 billion enterprise offering a full range of domestic and global telecommunications services through one of the world's largest sophisticated networks. The company is the second-largest provider in the United States and has 65 overseas offices in 54 countries.
