TRACOR RECEIVES GO AHEAD TO PRODUCE COUNTERMEASURES DISPENSER SYSTEMS
 FOR U.S. AIR FORCE
NEW YORK, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracor Aerospace, Inc. has received a long-lead production order from the ALE-47 Joint Program Office for more than 330 AN/ALE-47 countermeasures dispenser systems to be delivered starting in 1993 to the U.S. Air Force. This initial production order follows the successful completion of F-16 developmental tests at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and will be valued at more than $25 million when full production authorization occurs at the successful completion of the operational tests in the first quarter of 1993.
This is the first of four annual production lots to be awarded under this contract, which has a total estimated value of more than $100 million. The AN/ALE-47 system has been under development by Tracor Aerospace since 1988, and systems produced under this order will be installed on U.S. Air force F-16s and C-130s, as well as other aircraft and helicopters.
George R. Melton, Tracor Aerospace president, said, "This product incorporates the latest in countermeasures technology and was developed in response to current operational needs and those projected for the next 20 years. We are pleased to provide such a vital aircraft system to increase survivability and reliability with lower maintenance, while freeing the pilot and air crew to concentrate on other functions necessary to the mission."
The AN/ALE-47 is a threat-adaptive, flight-line software- programmable dispensing system capable of dispensing chaff, flares, active radio-frequency decoys, and other expendables against threat systems. It is used by military aircraft to reduce combat losses in sophisticated threat environments.
Tracor Aerospace is a subsidiary of Tracor, Inc., which provides a broad range of technological products, systems and services for diverse U.S. government, international and commercial markets. In addition to providing advanced countermeasures and other electronics systems, the company is a major engineering and technical support contractor in communications, sonar, and other areas, and a comprehensive source for flight testing, specialized training and aircraft modification services.
