TRACOR PRODUCT TO BE ENDORSED BY NATIONAL SECURITY AGENCY

AUSTIN, Texas, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Tracor Aerospace, Inc. and the National Security Agency (NSA) have signed a memorandum of understanding agreeing to develop Tracor's proposed Secure Retrieval Processor (SRP) for personal computers. The SRP will be developed under NSA's Commercial COMSEC Endorsement Program (CCEP).
The SRP is a co-processor board that allows classified data on computer media previously encrypted by the U/SSP3110 media encryptor to be transparently decrypted and accessed. The SRP will be a companion product to the NSA-endorsed U/SSP3110 Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) encryptor/decryptor developed by Tracor.
George R. Melton, Tracor Aerospace president, said, "The SRP will significantly reduce the investment required for classified database users to decrypt files previously encrypted by the U/SSP3110 at a central distribution site. We believe the proliferation of the rapidly emerging CD-ROM technology within the government user community justifies a companion technology for accessing encrypted CD-ROMS."
"The SRP, a decrypt-only system, will provide considerable cost savings to U.S. government users when used in conjunction with the U/SSP3110," said Charles M. Willingham, vice president of Tracor Aerospace's Integrated Systems Division.
Tracor Aerospace is a subsidiary of Tracor, Inc., which provides a broad range of technological products, systems, and services for diverse U.S. government, international, and commercial markets. The company is a major management and technical support contractor in communications, sonar, and other areas; a leader in the development and production of electronic countermeasures systems and advanced electronics; and a comprehensive source for flight testing, specialized air crew training, and aircraft modification services.
