TP Polyimide Gives Boost to PTFE Performance.

New fine-powder grades of heat- and abrasion-resistant thermoplastic polyimide are said to raise the abrasion, wear, and creep resistance of PTFE fluoropolymers in applications subject to high temperature and pressure. Aurum PD400 and PD450 powders from Mitsui Chemicals in Purchase, N.Y., are used at levels of 5% to 30% in automotive, appliance, and semiconductor parts such as valves, bearings, seals, tubes, and belts. With mean particle sizes as low as 6 microns, Aurum powders are said to disperse well in PTFE.
