 TOYS 'R' US OPENS SECOND STORE IN JAPAN;
 PRESIDENT BUSH SPEAKS AT STORE OPENING
 PARAMUS, N.J., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Toys "R" Us, Inc. (NYSE: TOY) today announced the opening of its second Japanese store in Kashihara-Nara Prefecture (south of Kyoto). Charles Lazarus, chairman and chief executive officer of Toys "R" Us, introduced President Bush who spoke to thousands of people in the parking lot of the store.
 The prototype 45,000-square-foot Kashihara store follows the very successful opening of the first Toys "R" Us store in Japan on Dec. 23, 1991, in Arakawacki - Ibaragi Prefecture (northeast of Tokyo). The store openings culminate three years of intense preparation for entry into Japan by the company. Toys "R" Us entry into Japan is symbolic of the progress in U.S.-Japan bilateral trade negotiations spearheaded by the U.S. government and the company. Until recently, large-scale retail stores have been prohibited from opening in Japan due to a complex series of regulations and barriers.
 Toys "R" Us is the world's largest toy specialty retailing chain operating 497 toy stores in the United States, 126 international toy stores and 189 Kids "R" Us children's clothing stores in the United States.
