TOYOTA SALES UP IN FINAL 10 DAYS OF FEBRUARY

 TORRANCE, Calif., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., today reported a strong sales increase in the final 10 days of February led by trucks, the all-new Corolla and the Tercel subcompact sedan.
 Toyota's total U.S. vehicle sales increased 11.2 percent in the 10-day period to 28,128. February sales declined 4.0 percent to 76,002.
 "Prospective car buyers have been taking a wait-and-see attitude about the impact of the new tax plan on the economy," said Yale Gieszl, TMS executive vice president. "March will be a key barometer month for the industry."
 Toyota truck sales, including the all-new T100 intermediate-sized pickup, rose 49.0 percent to 5,451 in the 10-day period and 40.6 percent for the month to 15,601. Corolla sales increased 27.2 percent for the 10 days to 5,910 and 4.7 percent to 15,958 for the month. Tercel rose 26.4 percent to 2,694 in the 10 days and 2.3 percent to 7,324 for the month.
 Sales of Toyota's North American-built vehicles increased 33.8 percent to 12,125 for the 10 days and 16.9 percent to 32,485 for February. In the 10 days they were 43.1 percent of total sales, up from 35.8 percent last year, and 42.7 percent for the month, up from 35.1.
 Lexus Division reported an 18.5 percent rise in ES300 sales in the final 10 days of February, with a 0.3 percent decline to 2,982 for the month. Total Lexus sales declined 7.5 percent to 2,635 in the 10 days and 24.4 percent to 6,150 for the month.
 There were six selling days in the final 10-day period in February 1993 and eight in the same period last year.
