TOYOTA SALES RISE IN SECOND 10-DAY PERIOD OF MAY

 TORRANCE, Calif., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. Inc., today reported that its total vehicle sales for the second 10-day period of May were 37,117, up 34.7 percent from the same period in 1992. CYTD sales are at 375,229, up 0.6 percent over the same period last year.
 Toyota sales leaders for the 10 days include Camry mid-size sedan, up 64.0 percent to 11,873. The all-new Corolla compact sedan and wagon rose 11.0 percent to 6,594. The subcompact Tercel sedan increased 27.3 percent to 3,334, and the sporty Celica coupe and convertible rose 2.8 percent to 1,134.
 Toyota's North American-built vehicles account for 47.3 percent of sales for the 10-day period, up from 40.5 percent in the same period last year, and 43.8 percent CYTD, up from 35.2 percent for the same period last year. The U.S.-built Camry increased 44.1 percent to 8,432 in the 10 days, and the North American-built Corolla increased 40.3 percent to 5,677.
 Other 10-day sales leaders include the 4Runner compact sport utility vehicle, which increased 50.5 percent to 1,455, and the significantly upgraded Land Cruiser luxury sport utility vehicle, up 59.6 percent to 316.
 Total Toyota pickup sales, including the new T100 intermediate- size pickup, rose 39.4 percent to 6,491, including 3,448 U.S.-built compact models. CYTD pickup sales rose 22.4 percent to 72,265, including 36,474 U.S.-built compact models.
 Lexus reported sales of 3,741 cars for the 10-day period, up 88.7 percent with a 65.5 percent increase in ES300 sales to 1,377; a 19.8 percent increase in LS400 to 768; and an 11.1 percent SC300 increase to 221. Lexus sold 34,345 vehicles CYTD, up 2.8 percent over the same period last year.
