TOYOTA SALES RISE 9.3 PERCENT IN JUNE

 TORRANCE, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. Inc., today reported that its total vehicle sales for the month of June rose 9.3 percent to 90,115, compared to the same period in 1992. CYTD sales are at 508,904, up 1.6 percent over the same period last year.
 "Last month, Lexus and Toyota were named tops in initial quality by J.D. Power and Associates," said Yale Gieszl, TMS executive vice president. "Despite increased competition in all segments of the market, our sales continue to demonstrate that consumers recognize the value and quality of Toyota and Lexus products."
 Lexus reported sales of 7,009 cars for the month, up 12.0 percent, and 46,000 CYTD, up 5.8 percent over the same period last year.
 Toyota sales leaders for June include Camry mid-size sedan and wagon, up 26.7 percent to 28,978. The all-new Corolla compact sedan and wagon rose 1.1 percent to 17,585. The subcompact Tercel sedan increased 3.2 percent, to 7,565.
 Toyota's North American-built vehicles account for 50.3 percent of June sales, up from 46.0 percent in the same period last year, and 45.0 percent CYTD, up from 37.7 percent for the same last year. The U.S.-built Camry increased 18.8 percent to 21,939 in June, and the North American-built Corolla increased 4.7 percent, to 14,993.
 Other June sales leaders include the 4Runner compact sport utility vehicle, which increased 21.7 percent to 3,772, and the Land Cruiser luxury sport utility vehicle, up 28.3 percent to 653.
 Total Toyota pickup sales, including the new T100 intermediate-size pickup, rose 11.4 percent to 15,095, including 8,416 U.S.-built compact models.  There were 26 selling days in both June of 1993 and 1992.
