TOYOTA REPORTS MONTH-END SALES

 TOYOTA REPORTS MONTH-END SALES
TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales

(TMS), U.S.A., Inc. today reported sales for November.
Serious discussions by the administration prior to the Thanksgiving holiday regarding the need for a tax cut package may have had a positive effect on consumer confidence -- particularly in the area of auto sales.
"Post-Thanksgiving sales were stronger than expected, giving Toyota an across-the-board improvement in car sales over the previous 10-day period," said Bob McCurry, TMS executive vice president.
Although Toyota's total November sales were down 3 percent from a year ago, new products from both Toyota and Lexus divisions proved to be important bright spots. Camry sales were up 6 percent for the month over last year and 26 percent for the 10-day period. Lexus division enjoyed a 24.6 percent boost for the month over last year, with its new ES 300 contributing a more than 63 percent increase over last year vs. the ES 250.
Toyota domestic-built cars rose 6.6 percent for the month with the domestic-built Corolla leading the way with a 12.9 percent increase over last year.
"Serious talks on tax cuts are giving consumers a glimmer of hope," said McCurry. "We are projecting industry sales of about 14 million units for calendar year '92. Without a tax cut, that figure could decrease by as much as half-a-million."
