TOYOTA REPORTS JANUARY MONTH-END SALES AND EXPORTS

 TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. Inc today reported sales and exports for January.
 Toyota's total U.S. vehicle sales for January 1993 were 66,122, down 4.0 percent from January 1992. In the last 10 days of January, however, sales rose 5.9 percent to 37,310.
 North American-built vehicles accounted for 39.0 percent of total Toyota sales in January, up from 30.1 percent at the same time last year.
 "Pent-up demand is a very real factor at this time," said Yale Gieszl, TMS executive vice president.
 "The keen competition provides excellent opportunities for car and truck buyers."
 January sales leaders include the midsize Camry sedan, up 7.6 percent to 18,184; the Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicle, up 8.8 percent to 2,953; and the upgraded Land Cruiser luxury 4WD sport utility vehicle, up 17.9 percent to 645.
 Total Toyota pickup sales, including the new T100 intermediate- size pickup, rose 15.9 percent to 12,780.
 Lexus Division reported January sales of 6,264, down 7.5 percent for the month, but up 13.9 percent in the last 10 days to 3,573. The Lexus January sales leader was the ES300 sedan, up 23.8 percent to 2,901.
 January export shipments of U.S.-built Toyotas totaled 3,926, up 122.9 percent.
