TOYOTA HELPS DEALERS PROTECT ENVIRONMENT WITH ENVIRONMENTAL ASSISTANCE NETWORK HOTLINE

TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota dealers can simply pick up the phone for information concerning environmental problems, thanks to a new hotline and guidebook provided by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. (TMS) Inc.
Toyota's Environmental Assistance Network offers a ready reference for help with a comprehensive array of environmental concerns for Toyota dealers across the United States.
"The protection of our natural resources has become as important from a business and legal standpoint as it is from a health and conservation point of view," said Bill Porento, TMS corporate technical services manager. "It makes sense to give all Toyota dealers the best possible general direction, so they can follow up on their own as independent businessmen."
The general direction takes the form of an overview on videocassette and a comprehensive environmental guidebook prepared by an environmental consulting firm that "walks" dealers through such matters as community right-to-know, recycling, waste reduction, hazardous substances, storage and liability.
In addition, Toyota's Environmental Assistance Network hotline allows dealers to call Toyota headquarters for referrals to federal and state agencies as well as consultants and local vendors.
"Not only do we provide assistance to our 1,200 Toyota dealers through the network, but we also are learning from all of them and continuously improving our service procedures," Porento said. "In time, we're certain that the program's successes will be emulated to benefit the environment worldwide."
An editorial in Automotive News hailed the program, saying, "For years, Toyota has set the industry pace for quality. Now the company has created a new standard by giving U.S. dealers a manual for running an environmentally sound operation ... Good show, Toyota. Dealers needed the help, and everyone will benefit. Let's hope the competition follows Toyota's example on this move, too."
