TOYOTA DOMESTIC CARS, LEXUS LEAD INCREASES
FOR SECOND 10-DAY JANUARY SALES PERIOD
TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Domestic-built Toyota cars and Lexus luxury cars lead Toyota sales increases for the second 10-day period in January.
"Interest rates have shown substantial reductions around the country," said Bob McCurry, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc. "Along with encouraging leasing, the rate drop has definitely stimulated automotive sales."
Toyota's total U.S. vehicles sales rose 28.3 percent comparing Jan. 1-20, 1992 with the same period in 1991.
Toyota's total domestic car sales rose 37.8 percent. Domestic-built Corolla compact sedans rose 50.9 percent to 2,357 units, accounting for nearly 60 percent of Corollas sold in the period. Domestic-built Camry midsize sedans rose 29.6 percent to 3,273 units, accounting for nearly 70 percent of Camrys sold in the period.
Toyota Division total sales rose 20.7 percent.
Lexus Division reported sales up by 174.1 percent over the same period last year, lead by a 112.6 percent increase for the Lexus ES 250/300.
