TOYOTA AWARDS WIRING SYSTEM CONTRACT TO UNITED TECHNOLOGIES AUTOMOTIVE

DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc. (TMM) has selected United Technologies Automotive (UTA) to supply the electrical distribution system for the 1994 coupe version of the popular Toyota Camry sedan.
UTA was awarded the business over competing bids from several other North American manufacturers. Production of the wiring systems began in late August at UTA's North American facilities. The systems will be delivered to Toyota's assembly plant in Georgetown, Ky.
Steve Gregerson, UTA's director, international sales and program management - wiring systems, said working with Toyota has led UTA to establish a cross-functional kaizen team to ensure continuous improvement of Toyota products. "Not only is it helping us on the 1994 Camry Coupe, but we are also working closely with Toyota Technical Centers in Ann Arbor and Toyota City, Japan to improve future Toyota programs," said Gregerson.
UTA, headquartered in Dearborn, is a major supplier of electrical and interior trim systems and components to car and light truck manufacturers worldwide.
UTA is a unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) based in Hartford, Conn., which provides a broad range of high technology products and services to the aerospace, building systems and automotive industries.
