TOYOTA'S NORTH AMERICAN EXPORTS TO JAPAN NEARLY DOUBLE FROM YEAR AGO

NEW YORK, March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Corporate Services of North America, Inc. (Nasdaq SmallCap: TOYOY) (TMCS) announced today that exports of North American-produced vehicles to Japan nearly doubled during February over the same period last year. The majority of this increase was attributed to exports of the U.S.-built Toyota Cavalier. A total of seven North American-produced vehicles are exported by Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. to 22 countries worldwide including Japan.

Toyota also celebrated eleven straight months during which more than half the number of Toyota vehicles sold in the U.S. were built in North America.

On March 4th, TMCS announced the opening of a representative office in Evansville to support the establishment of its new $700 million T100 truck facility, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana, Inc. (TMMI). TMMI, which will be located on a 1,100 acre site in Gibson County, will employ approximately 1,300 people and is scheduled to begin building the T100 truck in the autumn of 1998.

In an industry where a great deal of time is spent analyzing monthly sales results, Toyota is also tracking a host of performance indicators which reveal progress toward the increased local operations called for in the company s global business plan. The plan provides mid- and long- term direction to Toyota s future business activities which includes the increase of North American production capacity to more than 1.1 million units annually in 1998. Toyota's investment in U.S. manufacturing, sales, and research and development exceeds $5 billion to date and annual purchases of parts and materials from local U.S. suppliers totals $5.69 billion.
