TOTAL CANADA OIL & GAS LTD. ANNOUNCES PROPOSED CHANGE OF CORPORATE NAME

CALGARY, Alberta, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Total Canada Oil & Gas Ltd. announced today that, subject to shareholder approval, it proposes to change the name of the company to "Rigel Energy Corporation." In conjunction with the sale by TOTAL S.A. of Paris, France of its 53 percent interest in Total Canada Oil & Gas Ltd. effective Feb. 1, 1993, the company agreed with TOTAL S.A. to change its name by July 31, 1993.
The board of directors has approved the submission of the name "Rigel Energy Corporation" to shareholders of the company for approval at the Annual and Special Meeting scheduled for June 9, 1993, in Calgary.
"Rigel" is the largest and brightest of the seven stars in the constellation Orion, named after the celebrated hunter of Greek mythology. Rigel, located in Orion's foot, symbolizes experience, strength, endurance and skill -- qualities necessary for success in the oil and gas industry.
