TOSHIBA'S ULTRA-LIGHT, ULTRA-SLIM PORTEGE 3490CT PACKS A POWERFUL HEAVYWEIGHT PUNCH.

The Computer Systems Group (CSG) of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) has announced the arrival of the ultra-thin Portege 3490CT portable computer. Measuring a mere .08-inches thin and weighing only 3.4-pounds, the Portege 3490CT builds on the award-winning Portege 3000 series platform and adds the new low voltage Mobile Intel Pentium III 700MHz processor, 20 billion byte hard drive and expanded memory. The system is designed to support mainstream business applications, offers up to nine hours of battery life (with optional high capacity battery slice) and allows customers to stay productive anytime, even in limited workspace conditions such as airline seating.

"Toshiba's newest Portege notebook is the perfect lightweight companion for the high-travel users that require the lightest and thinnest portable computer possible," said Steve Andler, vice president of marketing, Toshiba CSG. "By offering the latest in mobile computing technology, Toshiba is able to deliver today's mobile workforce hardware that can answer the demand for top performance without sacrificing productivity."

The Portege 3490CT offers several compact and lightweight storage and expansion accessories. The product comes standard with a LAN Port Replicator, which features Ethernet connectivity and a full array of ports. The optional Multimedia Port Replicator offers one SelectBay modular bay for use with Toshiba's slimline DVD-ROM, second hard disk, Zip and LS120 SelectBay drives, and a full array of connectivity for desktop expansion and additional storage requirements. Additionally, the slimline SelectBay DVD-ROM, Zip and LS120 drive modules are compatible with Toshiba's Tecra notebook line, maximizing a user's investment with the added bonus of interoperability between product lines.

The Portege 3490CT comes with a one-year parts and labor standard warranty including Toshiba's Notebook Depot repair program. Through this program, a notebook is shipped to Toshiba's depot, repaired and returned anywhere in the United States within 48 hours after receipt at the depot (service Monday-Friday 8 a.m. -- 5 p.m.). Warranty service also includes the option of carry-in service to one of Toshiba's Authorized Service Partners, located in major metropolitan areas in the United States. In addition, all portable computer customers receive telephone technical support through Toshiba's InTouch Center, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Online support, available at www.toshiba.com, offers immediate solutions to technical questions via "Ask IRIS", numerous downloads and support bulletins. Toshiba's SelectServ(SM) Service Programs also offer customers an array of warranty extensions and service upgrades, including on-site service and the popular SystemGuard, Toshiba's accidental damage protection coverage.
