Cold mountain... stop to enjoy the view on a skiing holiday in Austria 1MAYRHOFEN, AUSTRIA from PS349pp Not all Austrian ski resorts are little villages. Mayrhofen is a good-sized town spread across the valley floor and surrounded by dramatic peaks including the Hintertux, with its spectacular glaciers. There is a traditional feel to the place, you're guaranteed snow all year round and it's a good bet for families, with excellent children's facilities.

THE DEAL: A week at the Pension Eberharter costs from PS349pp B&B, including flights from Gatwick and transfers, through Crystal Ski.

mirror.co.uk/traveltop10 2 PAS DE LA CASA, ANDORRA from PS390pp The tiny principality of Andorra is a great choice for a bargain ski week - its tax-free status means your money will go much further than in neighbouring France or Spain. Packages are very reasonable and the cost of everything else, from food and drink to ski hire, is far less than in most Alpine resorts. Bansko is the country's top destination for skiers, with more than 40 miles of prepared runs, new lifts and reliable snow. The pretty square at the heart of the village is the ideal place for an apres-ski beer.

The Ski Andorra lift pass covers all the slopes in the principality meaning there are always new pistes to try. The ski schools are particularly good and the general atmosphere is more peaceful and less hectic than the big French resorts. Kirchdorf is great for families and has good free bus links to neighbouring ski runs as well as its own pistes, with more than 100 miles of runs in total.
