TOP MUSIC AWARD FOR CITY SINGER.

Byline: Larrissa Huggard NEWS REPORTER

COVENTRY singer Navin Kundra has been named Entertainer of the Year at a prestigious awards ceremony.

The 28-year-old was invited to the Houses of Parliament to receive the prize at the Asian Voice Political and Public Life awards.

He was presented the award by MP Anna Soubry in front of 250 guests.

Navin's big break as a singer came when he represented the UK on an Asian X Factor-style show Sa Re Ga Ma PA, filmed in Dubai. He sings in English and Hindi and has notched up six number one singles in the Asian charts.

On accepting his award, Navin, a former pupil of Caludon Castle School, said: "Thank you very much for this award. It is a real honour. Thanks to Asian Voice and Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP who have been very supportive.

"But more than me, this award belongs to my family and my manager."

A week after receiving the honour, Navin was invited by Prince Charles to a dinner at Windsor Castle, thanking him for his support as a celebrity ambassador for the British Asian Trust.

The trust was set up in 2007 and supports people living in poor communities in south Asia and the UK. Navin has been an ambassador for the trust since 2011.

He said: "I am very pleased that through my music, I am able to make a difference to other people's lives and be recognised in this way. Prince Charles is a charming gentleman in person and is genuinely passionate about the Trust. I look forward to working even more closely with the Trust this year."

Navin, who studied business and psychology at Aston University, released his first single Tukde Tukde on social networking site MySpace back in 2006. Since then his career has blossomed and he has performed in front of Cherie Blair at an awards show, and on stage with Bollywood siren Shilpa Shetty. He has also collaborated with big names such as Jay Sean and Rishi Rich.

Navin has previously told the Telegraph: "One day I would like to be included in the list of people who have done something for Coventry and perhaps have my name on the Walk of Fame."
