The Red Tent is the latest in a long line of thrilling movies and programmes based on Biblical stories. Here are five of the most memorable: BEN-HUR The only Hollywood movie approved by the Vatican, the 1959 film won 11 Oscars and is one of the biggest movies ever created, with the famous chariot racing scenes alone needing more than 15,000 extras.

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST Mel Gibson's 2004 religious masterpiece, in which he portrays the 12 hours before Jesus' crucifixion, held the record for highest pre-ticket sales for 10 years.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS This 1956 classic, starring Charlton Heston as Moses, is still one of the all-time great Hollywood blockbusters, while the dramatic scene where he parts the Red Sea - which won a special effects Oscar - remains one of the most recognised in movie history.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR Based on the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, the 1973 film, sung in a rock and disco style, followed the last six days of Jesus' life, seen through the eyes of Judas.

NOAH Starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson, the 2014 movie is based on the Biblical story of Noah, who built an ark before God flooded the sinful world, and grossed over PS282million worldwide.
