ONE of the UK's top prisoners' rights lawyers is reported to be representing James Bulger killer Jon Venables.

Simon Creighton, of London-based Batt Murphy Solicitors, is understood to be representing Venables after he was recently returned to custody.

Earlier this month, justice secretary Jack Straw ruled the release of any further details of why Venables is back in prison would wreck a potential future trial.

Mr Creighton is described as one of the country's leading specialists inS prisonS law.

He also acted as solicitor for Venables in 2001, when he said threats on the lives of his client and fellow killer Robert Thompson were taken extremely seriously.

Venables and Thompson were just 10 when they battered two-year-old James to death in Bootle 17 years ago.
