TOP 5 Christopher Lee's greatest films.

1. THE WICKER MAN (1973) Edward Woodward's naive policeman found himself in big trouble while investigating a girl's disappearance on a remote Scottish island, ruled by Lee's pagan. It's regarded as one of the best British horrors ever - just don't mention the sequel.

2. DRACULA (1958)With Bela Lugosi and Max Schreck having made Bram Stoker's bloodsucker their own, Hammer recast the die by making the Transylvanian Count a sex symbol. Lee's tall, dark and gruesome appearance made for an unforgettable experience.

3. THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957)Lee teamed up with Peter Cushing for the first time in a glossy adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic. Although tame by today's standards, it had to be cut to even earn an X-certificate.

4. THE DEVIL RIDES OUT (1968)Hammer's excellent adaptation of Dennis Wheatley's novel about Satanists in the Home Counties was unusual in that Lee played the good guy. The actor says it's his favourite of the films he's made.

5. THE CRIMSON PIRATE (1952)While the star was Burt Lancaster, this swashbuckling action comedy featured a typically eye-catching turn from the young Lee. Set in the Caribbean, most of the action was filmed in less sunny Teddington.
