TONIGHT, NATIONALLY TOURING 'HEADACHE ART' EXHIBIT OPENS AT
CHETWYND STAPYLTON GALLERY DURING FIRST THURSDAY GALLERY WALK
WHAT: Area headache sufferers and headache specialists will
be on-hand tonight at the Chetwynd Stapylton Gallery
during the First Thursday Gallery Walk to welcome the
nationally touring "Through the Looking Glass" headache
art exhibition to the Portland area. The exhibition
will remain on display at the gallery for two weeks.
A free public forum on headache will be held in
conjunction with the exhibit on March 14 at Good
Samaritan Hospital. Portland is the latest stop of the
national public education tour which began with
Dr. C. Everett Koop at the National Museum of Health
 and Medicine in Washington, D.C.
WHY: Of the estimated 45 million Americans who suffer frequent,
severe headache, fewer than half ever seek care, even
though 90 percent can be successfully helped. In this
provocative exhibit, headache sufferers have captured
in riveting images their own struggles with headache pain.
The purpose of the exhibit is to call attention to headache
as a serious medical condition for which help is available.
WHO: "Through the Looking Glass" is made possible by an
educational grant from Sandoz Pharmaceuticals Corporation
and is being hosted locally by Good Samaritan Hospital
and Medical Center, and Hubert Leonard, M.D., Ph.D.
 WHEN &
WHERE: Exhibition Preview: Thursday, March 5, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.
at the Chetwynd Stapylton Gallery, 422 N.W. 8th Avenue,
between N.W. Flanders Street and Glisan Street. The
exhibition will remain open to the public until March 22.
Exhibit hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to
5:30 p.m. The exhibit is free of charge and accessible
 to the handicapped.
Free public seminar: Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. in
Peterson Hall at the Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical
Center, 2255 N.W. Northrup St. The event is being
presented by exhibit co-host Hubert Leonard, M.D., Ph.D.
with special guest K.M.A. Welch, M.D., president of the
 International Headache Society. Advance registration
is requested, but walk-ins are welcome. To register,
or for more information, call 503-229-7348.
CONTACT: Maree Gaetani or Matt Lindley of BBK, 617-734-4400, for the Headache Art Exhibit.
