TOMMY SHERIDAN'S COLUMN: PUT MONEY WHERE MY MOUTH IS.
LAST week I explained the proceeds from this column would be donated to a campaign or a worthy cause.
In consultation with my colleagues from the Scottish Socialist Party, I've decided to pledge the money from last week's column to the Scottish Fire Brigades' Union.
Not a day goes by without someone's life being saved by a firefighter.
And they don't just a save lives, they save a lot of people - the government, councils, businesses and insurance companies billions of pounds every year.
Just imagine the state of Edinburgh's historic city centre today if it hadn't been for the bravery and professionalism displayed last month by the Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade. They have maintained their dignity in the face of a despicable campaign of slander orchestrated by people who would flee in panic if their toast caught fire.
The firefighters are not just battling against low, low pay.
They're rightly proud of the service they provide. It's the best in the world. And the FBU intend to keep it that way.
