Record Label Joins Forces With Arsenio Hall Communications and
Paramount Home Video to raise Youth Awareness of HIV and AIDS
HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- "Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS and YOU," the much talked about AIDS educational home video hosted by Magic Johnson and Arsenio Hall, will be brought to the attention of the hard-to-reach teenage population of America thanks to a grass-roots effort being launched by Tommy Boy Music. The label, which is considered to be one of the premiere distributors of rap music, will work in conjunction with Black and CHR radio stations to release "Temporary Passion," a rap song by Hall and Malcolm-Jamal Warner ("Time Out's" director), which is featured in the video.
Hall, who executive-produced "Time Out" commented, "I commend Tommy Boy on their decision to get so behind a non-profit project. All of us who worked on the tape have felt a certain amount of frustration in trying to get it to the kids in the streets, who are not exposed to conventional publicity or promotional outlets." Hall continued, "Those kids listen to the radio stations that feature the cutting-edge music of Tommy Boy artists, which makes the label a perfect partner for us in this effort."
Tommy Boy Music's President, Monica Lynch, commented, "We are happy to support a worthwhile AIDS education and fundraising project. It's important that the entertainment industry joins forces to fight this disease."
To date, radio stations that have committed to begin playing "Temporary Passion" on Nov. 9, at 9 a.m., as well as participating in "Time Out" promotional activities, include KPWR/Los Angeles, WRKS/New York, KMEL/San Francisco, WKYS/Washington, KJMZ/Dallas, WVEE/Atlanta, KMJK/Phoenix, WROU/Dayton, Ohio, KIPR/Little Rock, Ark., WFXM/Macon, Ga., WZHT/Montgomery, Ala., WJTT/Chattanooga, Tenn., and WTLZ/Saginaw, Mich. Several other stations are expected to be added during the coming weeks. Many participating stations are in the process of implementing comprehensive AIDS awareness campaigns built around the video that will continue throughout the year. Campaigns will vary depending on the needs of each individual market.
A major part of the radio promotion for "Time Out" will consist of contests being conducted by the stations' morning drive teams. In keeping with the "taking the knowledge to the streets" theme, prizes for the contests have been donated by such cutting edge/hip companies as Casio Electronics, Starter Athletic and Cross Colours. Air transportation and hotel accommodations for the grand prizes, trips to Los Angeles to see "The Arsenio Hall Show" live, have been provided by Continental Airlines and the Nikko Hotel.
"I feel that we have a responsibility to educate all people about this disease, but especially our young," said Merrell Tomlin, general manager, of Casio's Timepiece Division. He further commented, "We at Casio applaud the work that has been done by Magic Johnson and Arsenio, as well as Tommy Boy Music, and we are honored to be a part of this partnership to raise youth awareness of HIV and AIDS."
"Time Out: The Truth About HIV, AIDS and You," was produced by Arsenio Hall Communications, in association with Paramount Home Video. All profits from the video will be donated to the Magic Johnson Foundation for AIDS research, education and care.
