 TOM LUCE ELECTED TO DELL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of


Dell Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: DELL) announced today that it has elected Tom Luce a member of the board. His election expands the board to five members.
 Luce, 51, currently serves as chairman and chief executive officer of First Southwest Company, a Dallas-based investment banking firm founded in 1946 that provides services in corporate and public finance, underwriting and trading of debt and equity securities, institutional sales and other related investment banking activities. First Southwest has been ranked in the top 10 in the nation among financial advisors.
 He founded the law firm of Hughes and Luce in 1973 and currently remains in an of counsel capacity to the 150-member firm. During his tenure as managing partner of Hughes and Luce, he oversaw the $2.5 billion merger of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and General Motors. Luce also recovered approximately $16.5 million from the government of Iran in a wrongful conduct suit on behalf of EDS.
 His career as a public servant includes numerous governmental appointments, including chairman of the Texas National Research Laboratory Commission, the state agency responsible for Texas' participation in the Superconducting Super Collider Laboratory; Chief Justice pro tempore of the Texas Supreme Court; chief of staff of the Texas Select Committee on Public Education, and member of the Texas War on Drugs Committee.
 He currently serves on the board of trustees of Southern Methodist University and is a lecturer at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin. Previously, he was a fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Luce received A.B. and J.D. degrees from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
