TOM CRUISE TO BASE PRODUCTION COMPANY AT PARAMOUNT
HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom Cruise and his partner

Paula Wagner will base their new film production company at Paramount Pictures, it was announced today. Cruise and Wagner will develop film projects exclusively for Paramount under the multiple picture arrangement.
As part of this deal, Cruise will star in two major films for Paramount over the next three years. In addition, Cruise is also starring in John Grisham's "The Firm" for Paramount, which begins production this month for release in the summer of 1993.
The Cruise-Wagner company will have its offices on the Paramount lot in Hollywood. Cruise formed the production company last July with Wagner, his agent for the past 11 years at Creative Artists Agency.
"Everyone at Paramount at every level is excited to have the Cruise-Wagner Company as a major production entity at the studio," said Stanley R. Jaffe, president and chief operating officer of Paramount Communications Inc. (NYSE: PCI) and acting chairman of Paramount Pictures. "It gives me great personal satisfaction to be able to announce Tom's first production deal at Paramount as it did when he began his film career with me in 'Taps.' Since then, he has had some of his biggest successes at Paramount, including 'Top Gun' and 'Days of Thunder.'"
John Goldwyn, president of Paramount's Motion Picture Group/Production, said, "Paula Wagner's motion picture experience and relationships in the industry will make their company a magnet for top writers and directors. Barry London and I look forward to growing Cruise-Wagner as a creative force in the movie business."
Cruise said: "Paula and I are tremendously excited and appreciative to be welcomed into the Paramount family. Stanley Jaffe gave me my first break in films and now he is giving our company its first break in what I feel is a major cornerstone in my artistic life. It is our intention to produce films that will make us and them proud."
Added Wagner: "We are very fortunate to have Paramount support us and understand what we hope to accomplish. Tom and I want to create an environment where artists can flourish and help us to make quality movies that are accessible and stand for something. In addition to Stanley, John Goldwyn and Barry London have been very supportive of our goals."
Tom Cruise's first major screen role was in "Taps" (1981), which was produced by Jaffe. He quickly became a box-office draw able to captivate audiences with the 1983 hit "Risky Business." Paramount's "Top Gun," in which Cruise portrayed the Navy flyer Maverick, was the top-grossing film of 1986.
He has gone on to win accolades for his performances in such hit films as Martin Scorsese's "The Color of Money" with Paul Newman, Barry Levinson's "Rain Man" opposite Dustin Hoffman and Oliver Stone's "Born on the Fourth of July."
Most recently, he co-starred with Nicole Kidman in the romantic adventure "Far and Away" directed by Ron Howard.
Wagner joined CAA's motion picture department in October 1980. Originally an actress and playwright, she began her career as an agent with Susan Smith and Associates in 1978.
In addition to Cruise, with whom she has worked for almost 11 years, she has represented such talents as Stone, Robert Towne, Demi Moore, Val Kilmer, Kevin Bacon, Tom Berenger and Aidan Quinn.
Paramount Pictures is part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc.
