TOM'S ALL ALONE IN ENGLAND.

Byline: PETER O'HEHIR

THE Tom Taaffe-trained Defence Of Duress is the only Irish challenge at Goodwood today.

Successful at Nottingham for Tom Tate before joining Taaffe, the four-year-old has been placed twice from three runs over hurdles, and will be ridden today by Jamie Spencer, retained jockey for his owners, the Hays.

Tomorrow, the John Oxx-trained Saddlers Rock, a close third in the Ascot Gold Cup, and Simenon, winner of both the Ascot Stakes and Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot for Willie Mullins, run in the Artemis Goodwood Cup while Paul Deegan will run his progressive mare Midnight Soprano in the Group 3 Ishares Fillies Stakes.
