TO THE GROUND.

So, you've woken up then. Decided not to sleep until February and actually emerged to face the January music.

This week's frivolities kick off with one of the area's finest live bands, G'Dansk, performing at The Greyhound on Much Park Street. This lot are well worth seeing, so make it so.

Tomorrow night sees the Carling and NME supported Brat Awards Tour take in Warwick University, featuring Mo Wax's much vaunted breakbeat project U.N.K.L.E., indie crossover pioneers Delakota, band of the moment Idlewild and Llama Farmers.

On the same night, also at Warwick University, sonic refreshment will be provided once more by Quench. A night of up front house and a carnival atmosphere is promised.

Elsewhere, Saturday sees a fine night of live music taking place at The Hand and Heart on Far Gosford Street.

Things have changed slightly at the venue, with Saturday nights now having been taken over by Friday night promoters The 13th Floor to offer a weekend full of the best in live music.

They aim to bring signed touring bands to Coventry on a regular basis, as well as playing host to the wealth of local talent on offer.

Saturday sees Hypersucker supported by Nisha Madly. Hypersucker are promoting their new CD, proclaim themselves to be the heaviest band in town and are fronted by the beauty and the beast combination of Fiona and ex Hanging Judges guitarist Diesel.

A change of band for Monday night at The Golden Cross has been announced, with State Destination replacing Seachange.

Revivalists can step back into the 80s on Wednesday when musical merriment in the shape of Decadance takes over at Warwick University.

On Thursday Pala will be supported by Soup at The Golden Cross.

For those who like to step back even further, a Pink Floyd tribute band, Dark Side of the Wall will be performing at The Jaguar Club on Friday, January 29. In honour of the 25th anniversary of the release of Dark Side of The Moon, the band will be performing the whole of that album.

Finally, any budding stand- up comics who would like to test their mettle by facing an open mike at a planned monthly comedy night in Coventry should contact Andy Taylor on 0956 461352. Who's got the bottle?

Take my mother in law. No, seriously......
