TO ERR IS L.A., FURCAL MISCUES BY SHORTSTOP ARE KEY IN LOSS TO PADRES SAN DIEGO 9, DODGERS 1.
SAN DIEGO - Cesar Izturis has a Gold Glove. Rafael Furcal has a glove that at times seems like it might actually be made of gold.
Or perhaps even lead.
Two hours after manager Grady Little finally admitted Izturis will be relegated to backing up at shortstop and second base when he returns from the disabled list next week, Furcal, the club's current and apparently immoveable shortstop, offered a poorly timed demonstration of just what the Dodgers will be giving up defensively to keep his supposedly superior bat at the top of their lineup.
