TO CHAV & TO HOLD; Posh hotel's insult for wedding parties.

Byline: Patrick Hill

A HEARTLESS hotel boss reduced brides to tears by doubling wedding bills at the last minute then called them CHAVS for moaning.

Dozens of couples were furious after new owners of Nottingham's posh Walton Hotel gave them the choice of paying revised rates or cancelling.

In some cases the cost of the reception had more than doubled.

In one bill, the charge for restaurant hire went from PS250 to PS1,000 and the service charge rose from PS150 to PS507.

Then new director Alice Tarry went on Facebook to answer complaints, but insulted customers while asking pals for backing.

She wrote: "Would you please checkout the backlash from the wedding chavs. I need a thumbs up on my comment in support."

Heather Sulley, 26, proposed to use the hotel for her reception on August 16 but received an email saying the cost was increasing from PS2,561.08 to PS7,751.08. Heather, who lives in Carlton, Notts, said: "I broke down in tears as everything had gone up."

She and fiance Darren Smith, 31, have now found another venue.

Under law a new company has no legal obligation to honour previous owners' agreements.

Ms Tarry has offered refunds and refused to apologise for price hikes but admitted her Facebook post was "inappropriate".
