 INTERSOLV DOMINATES CLIENT/SERVER ENVIRONMENT
BY EXPANDING APS SUPPORT TO ORACLE AND SYBASE
ROCKVILLE, Md., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Today INTERSOLV (NASDAQ: ISLI) announced INTERSOLV APS support for Oracle and Sybase/SQL Server, the industry's leading client/server database management systems. This provides Oracle and Sybase/SQL Server users, who develop at more than 20,000 sites, with the opportunity to use a single rapid application development platform for both database/server and host/server applications. In addition, Oracle and Sybase/SQL Server users are now able to rapidly develop and deploy new systems and migrate them between client/server and mainframe environments.
"INTERSOLV's new APS Sybase support allows us to use APS to build client/server applications in even less time," said Pete Iarussi, senior specialist, AT&T. "In the past, when we generated applications for Sybase/SQL Server, we were required to convert from OS/2 Database Manager. By providing one consistent environment for key client/server development platforms, APS completely shields the developer from having to learn new languages and rewrite applications for different platforms. This speeds development time dramatically."
"INTERSOLV APS is the only application development platform that offers users a complete production grade client/server solution," said Kevin Burns, president and CEO of INTERSOLV. "APS easily scales to meet the needs of today's enterprise while providing users with true platform independence. This announcement reflects our commitment to delivering application development solutions which allow customers to exploit today's client/server environment while leveraging their investments in existing systems."
Increases Developer Productivity -- Decreases Development Time
INTERSOLV APS integrates client/server development with traditional development by enabling users to generate and maintain applications for client/server, cooperative, mainframe and midrange architectures from the same development environment. This increases user productivity by reducing training overhead and eliminating multiple learning curves. In addition, developers are able to use the same tool to develop a wide range of applications, from simple LAN-based departmental systems to large-scale enterprisewide applications with high-volume host-server components.
 Provides Development Platform Independence
INTERSOLV APS delivers true platform independence, allowing users to develop for their platform of choice, encompassing a wide variety of client/server, midrange and mainframe targets including:
-- Client/server operating systems: OS/2, Windows and Unix
 -- Client/server databases: Oracle, Sybase/SQL Server and DB2/2
 -- Host/server environments: DB2, IMS-DB and VSAM via APPC
 -- Host/midrange environments: DB2, IMS-DB, VSAM, CICS, IMS/TP,
 Batch and OS/400
In addition, APS supports workgroup development on the LAN and is tightly integrated with the leading PC-LAN software configuration management system, INTERSOLV PVCS.
Constructs Both Client and Server Components
Unlike tools which focus exclusively on the client side of client/server applications, APS generates both client and server components. For Oracle and Sybase/SQL Server, this includes generation of stored procedures. For DB2 and other IBM targets, server programs are generated with static SQL.
 Pricing and Availability
APS with Oracle and Sybase/SQL Server support is available immediately at a price of $9,500 per authorized user. Current APS customers can obtain these additional targets for $750 per environment.
