TNT EXPRESS WORLDWIDE ANNOUNCES DAILY TRANS-ATLANTIC FREIGHTER SERVICE;
 FIRST DEDICATED DC-8 JET FREIGHTER FOR TNT U.S. OPERATIONS
 GARDEN CITY, N.Y., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- TNT Express Worldwide announced today that it will begin operating a trans-Atlantic freighter. The inaugural flight of the new service, called the TNT Atlantic Shuttle, departs Cologne/Bonn International Airport in Cologne at 3 a.m. on May 5 and arrives at JFK International Airport in New York at 6 a.m on May 5.
 "The addition of the Atlantic Shuttle improves TNT's position in the ever increasingly competitive global express industry," explained John Ovens, CEO-The Americas, TNT Express Worldwide. "This new service will further strengthen the link between our extensive European air and road network and our growing U.S. network, and further enhance the quality of TNT services."
 Specifically, TNT will provide one daily trans-Atlantic flight six days a week. The Atlantic Shuttle weekday flights will be non-stop between New York and Cologne, while the Saturday flight will provide services to London en route to Cologne.
 Specific customer service improvements include shorter transit times for both U.S.- and European-bound deliveries. TNT customers will experience a half-day service improvement for 90 percent of European-bound traffic with earlier morning deliveries and a one-day service improvement to secondary European markets such as Lyon or Nice.
 U.S. bound deliveries will benefit from later pick up and early delivery times. For example, TNT can pick up European consignments late in the day and begin deliveries in New York at or before 9 a.m., the following morning. TNT also will provide overnight delivery to major U.S. cities.
 According to Ovens, the TNT Atlantic Shuttle also replaces the linehaul agreement that was initiated in February 1992 between TNT and Federal Express.
 In addition, the start of the new service coincides with the official start date for TNT Express Worldwide role as the appointed sub-contractor for handling Federal Express' inbound deliveries from the U.S. and the rest of the world in some ten European countries. As part of the same agreement, TNT will also act as the delivery agent for all inbound intra-European services to Eastern European countries.
 The TNT Atlantic Shuttle is a DC-8-73 -- a "stretched stage 3" version of a DC-8 jet freighter that meets all airport noise requirements. The aircraft can transport up to 22 A-1 containers totaling a freight capacity of 38 tons.
 TNT Express Worldwide, the international courier/express and postal service jointly owned by TNT Ltd., the Australian transportation conglomerate, and GD Net BV, a consortium of the postal organizations of Canada, Sweden, France, Germany and the Netherlands, is a global delivery specialist that designs flexible international shipping programs for U.S. businesses.
 TNT Express Worldwide provides a highly reliable range of fast, secure services to 190 countries through an international network of 1,200 company-owned and staffed branches, including more than 40 branches in the U.S. The international mail division, TNT Mailfast, is the world's largest private international postal system, handling more than 300 tons of international mail each week.
