TMS INC. ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER PROFIT

 STILLWATER, Okla., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 1993, ended Nov. 30, 1992, increased 21 percent to $625,567 from $515,938, compared to the same period a year ago. This resulted in a net profit of $96,215 or $.01 per share compared to a net loss of $192,580 or $.02 for the same quarter one year ago.
 Operating costs and expenses for the first quarter of $522,760 decreased 25 percent, when compared to $698,245 reported for the first quarter of fiscal 1992. "The financial improvement is a result of management's aggressive actions last year to reduce operating expenses and increase revenues," stated TMS, Inc. president, J. Richard Phillips.
 Revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 1993 was $625,567, up $109,629 when compared to revenue of $515,938 for the same period last year. Service revenue for the quarter was $115,349 compared to $80,954 last year, an increase of 42 percent. Service revenue is expected to continue at a higher level than last year as more diverse service projects are aggressively pursued.
 Licensing and royalties revenue for the quarter increased 17 percent to $510,218 from $434,984 a year ago. "The 17 percent increase in licensing and royalty revenue for the first quarter of 1993 reflects an increase in product shipments by customers and additional new customers coming on-line," according to Dr. Phillips. Imaging products licensing and royalties increased 16 percent and publishing products licensing and royalties increased 23 percent. "It is encouraging to see the wide diversity of new customers using our imaging software in conjunction with our text products or with third party products," commented Dr. Phillips.
 TMS markets proprietary software and services to businesses and governmental agencies for use in retrieving large volumes of textual and image information on personal computers.
 TMS is a public company and its common stock is traded in the over- the-counter market.
