TL 6.4 mln embezzled from PTT bank.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- TL 6.4 million was embezzled from the Postal and Telecommunications General Directorate's (PTT) bank between the beginning of 2013 and May of last year, according to a report in the HabertE-rk daily.

The report indicated that 44 individuals employed by the PTT bank embezzled the TL 6.4 million, while 48 people were also found to have taken out credit using false identification. Criminal complaints have been filed against some of the alleged embezzlers, for whom prison terms of between six and 12 years are being sought.

According to the report, the branches at which the instances of embezzlement took place lacked managers and necessary oversight.

The PTT launched its bank in 2004, primarily to provide customers with an alternative and less expensive way to conduct money transfers. The PTT bank processed TL 524 million in transactions during 2013. Retirees are also able to collect their pensions at PTT bank branches.
