TJnames "Outstanding Research Paper.".

TJNAMES "OUTSTANDING RESEARCH PAPER." TAPPI JOURNAL has awarded its 2005 Outstanding Research Paper Award to "Presentation of a dry black liquor gasification process with direct causticization," by Erik Dahlquist of Malardalens Technical University in Vasteras, Sweden, and Andrew Jones of International Paper in Loveland, OH. It was originally published in the June 2005 issue of TJ.

In second place was "Improvement of paper properties using starch-modified precipitated calcium carbonate filler," by Yulin Zhao, Zeshan Hu, Arthur Ragauskas and Yulin Deng, originally published in February 2005. Two papers tied for third place: "A new method for determining the relative bonded area," by Warren Batchelor and Jihong He, from June; and "Print quality and the distribution of offset ink constituents in paper coatings," by Sanna Rousu, Patrick Gane and Dan Eklund, from the July issue.
