TIS THE SEASON TO BE DEPRESSED -- BUT LIFELINK AIMS TO CHANGE THAT
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Besides turkeys, hams and other typical corporate gifts, employees at some companies will receive a not-so-typical bonus this holiday season: a free resource to get help for substance abuse, mental health, legal or financial problems.
Officials at LifeLink, a leading behavioral health care company, this week announced an unusual offer to help companies reduce employee depression and low morale brought on by the holidays.
Companies subscribing to LifeLink's mental health and substance abuse benefit plan for 1993 will receive 45 days of free services through LifeLink's Employee Assistance Program (EAP). An EAP is a professional service that assists employees and their immediate families with personal problems, many of which can have a direct effect on workplace productivity and therefore, employer costs.
Through LifeLink's offer, employees will have access to 24-hour telephone counseling and referrals to community resources and LifeLink's extensive provider network.
"During the holidays, employee depression and anxiety reach their highest levels of the year," Colleen Crommett, LifeLink's vice president of sales, marketing and service, said.
"As the recession continues to cause widespread anxiety among employees, morale may plunge to an all-time low this holiday season. This is harmful to employees, since many physical ailments are caused by untreated emotional and stress-related problems. It's harmful to companies as well, because depression and stress-related illnesses negatively impact productivity and ultimately, the bottom line."
LifeLink is a wholly-owned subsidiary of PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: PHSYA), one of the nation's largest and most successful managed care organizations. LifeLink offers behavioral health care benefits that complement traditional health care plans.
LifeLink has offices in Southern California in Laguna Hills, Santa Ana and Van Nuys and an office in Northern California in Burlingame and Phoenix.
