 TIPPETT NAMED CEO OF COUNCIL OF GREAT LAKES INDUSTRIES
 DETROIT, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- W. Paul Tippett has been named


chairman and chief executive officer of the Council of Great Lakes Industries (CGLI).
 Tippett, former chairman and chief executive officer of American Motors Corporation and retired president of Springs Industries, Inc., will assume his new position on Nov. 1, 1992.
 The Council of Great Lakes Industries is an alliance of Canadian and U.S. firms in the Great Lakes region that promotes and advocates the common interest of the Great Lakes business community in harmony with the region's human and natural resources.
 Current members of the CGLI include Ameritech, Canadian Pacific Forest Products, Canadian Ship Owners Association, B.F. Goodrich, CPPI, Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority, Dow Chemical Canada, Inc., Dow Chemical Company U.S.A., Eastman Kodak Company, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Ford Motor Company, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Corp., Grand Trunk Western Railroad, GTE North, International Association of Great Lakes Ports, Lake Carriers' Association, Lambton Industrial Society, Molson Breweries, Ltd., New York Power Authority and Xerox Corporation.
 "Paul Tippett brings a wealth of leadership experience to CGLI from executive positions with Ford Motor Company, the Singer Company and as CEO of American Motors," said Silas Keehn, chairman of the CGLI and president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. "His expertise will lead CGLI as we expand our membership and focus on long-term regional development issues."
 The Council was formed in 1990 by a group of major Great Lakes firms and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (which historically has specialized in the Great Lakes economy) and the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority.
