TIME WARNER HOUSTON PURCHASES OVER $3 MILLION IN C-COR/COMLUX DIGITAL FIBER OPTIC EQUIPMENT TO LINK MAJOR HUB SITES

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard E. Perry, chairman and chief executive officer of C-COR Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: CCBL) announced today that Time Warner Cable of Houston, Texas will purchase C-COR's digital fiber optic equipment for installation in its Houston cable television network.
Included in the purchase is C-COR/COMLUX's 80-channel digital package, including the new 10-bit IF codec for processing IF scrambled signals on all channels. The project is designed to link six major hub sites with full optical redundancy, consolidating the entire Houston network while still affording specialized capabilities at each hub site. The redundant ring utilizes 1550 nm extended range optical terminals which allow for unrepeated distances up to 100 km. The digital A/B switches provide the ring with automatic "self-healing" capabilities in the event of a fiber break or component failure. The project, valued at over $3 million, is scheduled to start in August 1993, with completion in January, 1994.
Robert V. Moel, vice president of technical operations for Time Warner Houston, stated, "C-COR/COMLUX's digital product will give us the capability to achieve hub site consolidation with headend quality pictures, resulting in significant network efficiencies. The future is in digital and we feel that C-COR will be able to take us there."
Perry stated, "This digital network is a major effort, not only in the consolidation of the Houston headends and hubsites, but it will give Warner Houston the platform to extend the network throughout the Greater Houston area and beyond. This digital network will complete another phase in the on-going development of Time Warner Cable's Houston division plan for an unsurpassed quality network for the Houston systems. We are pleased to be working with Warner Houston on this ambitious project and pledge our full equipment service support."
