TIME WARNER CITYCABLE ADVERTISING NAMED AGENT FOR NEW YORK 1 NEWS
NEW YORK, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Time Warner CityCable Advertising, the advertising sales arm of Time Warner Inc.'s (NYSE: TWX) cable systems in New York City, has been named advertising representative for Time Warner's "New York 1 News," the 24-hour, all- news channel scheduled for launch in September.
The announcement was made today by Richard Aurelio, president of the Time Warner New York City Cable Group. "CityCable Advertising has become a major force in the nation's biggest advertising market as a result of the leadership of Larry Fischer, its president, during these past two years," Aurelio said. "Larry has pioneered cable ad sales in the New York market and we're pleased that he will now assume responsibility for ad sales for our exciting new all-news venture."
Fischer has already begun setting up a sales staff to handle the business and marketing functions for New York 1 News. He will retain his responsibilities as president of Time Warner CityCable Advertising, representing 800,000 subscribers managed by the Time Warner New York City Cable Group.
"New York 1 News will revolutionize local news reporting in New York City and I'm confident that the advertising community will respond accordingly," Fischer said. "At CityCable we've been planning for this opportunity for some time and, as such, are ready to market unique news and feature sponsorships on New York 1 News."
In 1988, Fischer founded Cable Advertising Manhattan (CAM), which was the forerunner to Time Warner CityCable Advertising. Prior to joining American Television and Communications, Time Warner's cable television division, Fischer was executive vice president at Spencer Sports Media in charge of sales and marketing.
Previously, Fischer worked for Katz Sports, a division of Katz Communications. He then moved to the National Basketball Association, where he developed media packages. Working directly for Commissioner David Stern, he created sponsorship opportunities for "NBA Today" on ESPN and the NBA Finals broadcasted on the ABC Radio Network.
In the early eighties, Fischer was vice president of advertising sales at Madison Square Garden Network, selling New York Knickerbockers and New York Rangers sponsorships. He began his media career at Grey Advertising before moving to advertising sales at several New York radio stations.
Fischer is the current president of the Cabletelevision Advertising Association of New York (CAANY), a trade organization which includes cable television advertising sales executives from 18 cable systems in the greater New York area.
New York 1 News will be available to 800,000 cable subscribers in New York City and is scheduled to air on Channel 1 in all of Time Warner's cable systems in New York City.
Time Warner's New York City cable systems include: Manhattan Cable Television (MCTV), Paragon Cable Manhattan (PCM), American Cablevision of Queens (ACQ), Brooklyn Queens Cable Television (BQ Cable) and Queens Inner Unity Cable System (QUICS).
