TIME TRAVELLER: HAD TO HAVE . . .

MOST people were unlikely to own one, but the home computer came on the scene.

This was the year that Apple became registered as a real company and not just a hobby collective, and the Apple II was launched.

It would become one of the most popular personal computers of the 1980s.

Ahead of its time in 1976, it had all mod cons: an integrated keyboard, two floppy disk drives and a monitor.

Computer fever really began - big time. In November a fledgling Microsoft came into being and by the end of 1976 the first laser printer was introduced by IBM - the IBM 3800.
