TIE CANADIAN SUBSIDIARY ANNOUNCES PROGRAM FOR ALBERTA GOVERNMENT TELEPHONE BUSINESS CUSTOMERS

 SEYMOUR, Conn., July 26 /PRNewswire/ -- TIE/communications, Inc., a leading supplier of telecommunications systems, services and software, has announced an agreement between its 73 percent owned Canadian subsidiary, TIE/communications Canada, Inc., AGT Limited and Mitel Corporation to supply telephone systems to AGT's business customers throughout the province. TIE Canada will be the exclusive distributor for a variety of Mitel telecommunications equipment, including key telephone systems, small and large PABX equipment and telecommunications software to commercial organizations in Alberta.
 "During the past year we have been positioning TIE to be the priemier supplier of telecommunications and information distribution products to our targeted small and medium size business customers," said George N. Benjamin, president and CEO of TIE. "Although the costs to implement this new program in Alberta are not without concern, we view this as another strategic move to strengthen TIE long term."
 Commenting on the announcement, Don Lowry, president of AGT Limited, said, "The agreement with TIE Canada and Mitel is designed to meet our commercial customers' current and future needs by offering them a reliable source for advanced telecommunications equipment and services. It also gives AGT an opportunity to focus its network expertise and to provide customers with a growing range of network services. Through these arrangements, TIE and Mitel act as an agent to load AGT's network. TIE Canada has established an excellent reputation with business customers during the last 10 years. It is a customer-focused company with a responsive, experienced, well-trained and capable work force in the field, at headquarters and in its branch offices."
 Kenneth Dumont, Mitel assistant vice president of sales in Canada, added, "TIE is one of the largest distributors of Mitel telephone systems and equipment in North America. The goal of this agreement is to assist current AGT customers, who are using Mitel equipment now, with their telecommunications requirements. Mitel, AGT and TIE have jointly developed a customer-based action plan for companies that need new equipment, rapid service or maintenance."
 AGT Limited, Canada's third largest telephone company, provides telecommunications products and service in Alberta, transmitting voice, data and video communications throughout the province. Federally regulated by the CRTC, AGT Limited is the largest subsidiary of investor-owned, Alberta-based TELUS Corporation.
 Mitel is an international manufacturer of business telecommunications systems, public switching systems, semiconductor and PC communications products, network enhancement and gateway products, and systems development software components. The company has annual revenues in fiscal 1993 of $423.4 million and has sold in excess of 168,000 PBX systems in over 80 countries, more than any other PBX manufacturer.
 TIE/communications Canada, Inc. is headquartered in Markham, Ontario. Its parent company, TIE/communications, Inc., is based in Seymour, Conn., and operates 68 TIE Systems, Inc. offices in Canada and the United States.
