TIE/COMMUNICATIONS DISTRIBUTES FUNDS TO EMPLOYEES IN SECOND CONSECUTIVE 'PAY FOR PERFORMANCE' PROGRAM

SEYMOUR, Conn., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- TIE/communications, Inc. (AMEX: TIE), today announced that it will distribute its second consecutive quarterly "Pay For Performance" funds to its employees next week. This follows news that TIE recently reported its first profitable year since 1984.
The "Pay For Performance" program recognizes and rewards employees for their contribution to the company's financial success. A percentage of TIE's fourth quarter profits are shared by employees who are not eligible for other types of bonus or who are not members of a collective bargaining group. This generally includes technicians, clerical and administrative personnel.
"Our second consecutive pay for performance distribution demonstrates that each employee is a genuine partner in the business and that they will directly benefit as TIE prospers and changes its direction from an equipment manufacturer to a provider of telecommunications products and services," says George N. Benjamin, III, president and CEO of TIE/communications, Inc. "The second distribution indicates that TIE is poised for continued growth and development throughout 1993 and beyond. Our people are important and deserve a share in TIE's financial victories."
Benjamin elaborated on TIE's financial turnaround that made the "Pay For Performance" possible, "We attained profitability by reducing costs; watching margins on all billable work; improving inventory management by all TIE associates; and developing higher margin computer telephone integration opportunities. Our new marketing direction as a supplier of products, services and software for business communications and information distribution is generating a positive response in the telecommunications marketplace."
TIE/communications, Inc., a major North American supplier of business communication systems, services and software, is based in Seymour, and its shares are traded on the American Stock Exchange. TIE/communications Canada Limited, a 63 percent owned subsidiary, is based in Markham, Ontario, and its shares are traded on the Toronto and Montreal Stock Exchanges.
TIE, with 68 offices in the U.S. and Canada, is a member of the Marmon Group of companies, an international association of more than 60 autonomous manufacturing and service companies with annual sales of nearly $4 billion.
