TIE/COMMUNICATIONS ANNOUNCES NEW CORPORATE OFFICE LOCATION

SEYMOUR, Conn., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- TIE/communications, Inc. (AMEX: TIE), a major North American supplier of business communications systems, services and software, announced today that it will relocate to a new corporate facility at 8500 West 110th Street, Overland Park, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City. TIE is offering nearly all of its fifty-five (55) corporate employees, now based in Seymour, the opportunity to relocate to the new location which will open for business Sept. 1, 1993.
"Kansas Governor Joan Finney called me when she was advised by her staff that TIE was considering the Overland Park area and asked what she could do to get TIE and its corporate staff to Kansas," said George N. Benjamin, TIE's president and CEO. "I told Governor Finney where we needed help and she went to work calling me back twice to report on her efforts."
Benjamin concluded that the relocation to Overland Park would reduce TIE's costs in excess of $500,000 per year over remaining in Connecticut, and its costs of doing business would be reduced immediately.
"The cost of living in Overland Park, as determined by PHH Destination Services, is 22 percent less than the Seymour area. In addition, Overland Park possesses a highly-rated quality of life as reported by Fortune Magazine, and it is one of the best places to raise children, as cited in a recent article in USA Today," stated Russell Melita, TIE's Vice President of Human Resources. "Representatives of the state of Kansas and the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce have been to TIE'S present corporate location to acquaint our employees with the quality of life benefits in Overland Park."
Joan Finney commented, "We are proud to welcome TIE/communications to Kansas and Overland Park. Its dynamic business approach in communications products, services and software compliments the technology companies that are already located in the Johnson County, Kan. area."
"We are pleased to have attracted a modern company like TIE/communications to Overland Park, and plan to work closely with TIE's management and employees on their relocation," said Blake Schreck, Vice President, Economic Development of the Overland Park, Chamber of Commerce. "I have visited TIE to explain Overland Park's spousal employment assistance plan. Together with the state and local development people, we have discussed available training and other corporate relocation services."
TIE/communications, Inc. operates 68 TIE Systems, Inc. offices in the United States and Canada. TIE has an installed base of 11 million telephones, making it one of the largest communications operations in North America.
TIE is a member of The Marmon Group of Companies, an international association of more than 60 autonomous manufacturing and service companies with annual sales in excess of $4 billion.
