TI ANNOUNCES LICENSING SETTLEMENT WITH SAMSUNG
 FOR MICROCOMPUTER SYSTEMS PATENTS
DALLAS, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN) today announced it has settled its patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea.
TI had sued Samsung in 1990 for infringing TI's microcomputer systems patents. Under terms of the five-year agreement, Samsung will pay royalties to TI for the use of TI's patents. Other terms of the agreement are considered confidential by both companies. TI's patents on microcomputer systems cover ways in which a microprocessor or a microcomputer interacts with the input/output functions of personal computers.
For example, patents include the automatic diagnostic routine a computer puts itself through each time it is turned on. TI has been a pioneer in microcomputer systems technologies, for which it has spent millions of dollars in research and development.
