 THRIFT DRUG TO SPONSOR FIRST CYCLING TRIPLE CROWN
 PITTSBURGH, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- International Cycling Productions


and Thrift Drug Inc., today announced the first Triple Crown of U.S. professional bicycle racing. A bonus purse of $50,000 will be offered to any professional racer who wins all three events in the 1992 Thrift Drug Triple Crown: The Thrift Drug Classic, the West Virginia Mountain Classic presented by Bell Atlantic and Kmart, and the CoreStates USPRO Championship.
 If one rider does not win all three events, points will be awarded to the top 15 finishers in each event and the bonus purse will be distributed as follows: 1st-$25,000; 2nd-$10,000; 3rd-$7,500; 4th-$5,000; 5th-$2,500. Racers must compete in all three events to be eligible for triple crown prizes.
 Points for each event will be awarded as follows: 1st-100; 2nd-85; 3rd-75; 4th-65; 5th-55; 6th-50; 7th-45; 8th-40; 9th-35; 10th-30; 11th-20; 12th-15; 13th-10; 14th-5; 15th-1.
 A race permit has been issued for all triple crown events by the United States Professional Cycling Federation (USPRO). All three races are sanctioned by USPRO and listed on the International Cycling Federation calendar. Valuable world ranking points are available to the riders.
 The first leg of the 1992 Thrift Drug Triple Crown is Pittsburgh's Thrift Drug Classic, scheduled for Sunday, May 24. Now in its second season, the 120-mile race runs in and around downtown Pittsburgh.
 The West Virginia Mountain Classic presented by Bell Atlantic and Kmart is the second leg of the Thrift Drug Triple Crown. The six day stage race is scheduled to start in Morgantown, W.Va., on Tuesday, May 26. The racers will ride 530-miles on varied terrain and conclude the race in Charleston on Sunday, May 31.
 The final leg of the 1992 Thrift Drug Triple Crown is the CoreStates USPRO Cycling Championship in Philadelphia. Now entering its eighth year as the official championship of U.S. professional road cycling, the CoreStates USPRO Cycling Championship is a 156-mile road race through the city of Philadelphia.
