THREE OFFICERS ELECTED AT NEWMONT MINING, NEWMONT GOLD

 DENVER, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Newmont Mining Corp. (NYSE: NEM) and Newmont Gold Co. (NYSE: NGC) have elected three officers, it was announced today by Gordon R. Parker, chairman and chief executive officer of both companies.
 Gary E. Farmar has been elected vice president and controller of both companies, Patricia A. Flanagan has been elected treasurer and Donald G. Karras has been elected vice president, taxes.
 Farmar joined Newmont Mining as assistant controller in 1989 and was elected controller of Newmont Mining and Newmont Gold in 1991. He holds a B.S./B.A. degree in accounting and an M.B.A., both from the University of Denver and is a C.P.A.
 Flanagan, who joined Newmont Mining's treasury department in 1980, had been assistant treasurer of both companies. She is a graduate of New York University from which she earned a B.A. in business administration.
 Karras joins Newmont Mining and Newmont Gold from Kennecott Corp. in Salt Lake City, where he had been director of taxes since 1988. Prior to that, he was tax manager at The Anschutz Corp. in Denver. He holds a B.A. in business administration from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.; and J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from The University of South Dakota at Vermillion. Karras, who is a C.P.A., and his family plan to relocate to Denver from Salt Lake City.
