THOROUGHBRED SOFTWARE INTERNATIONAL AND DIGITAL EQUIPMENT SIGN FIRST
                      BUSINESS DEVELOPER AGREEMENT
SOMERSET, N.J., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Thoroughbred(R) Software International Inc. recently became the first major software house to enter into a business relationship with Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) designed to promote joint sales of their products through Thoroughbred's worldwide Value Added Reseller (VAR) channel of over 1,200 distributors and dealers.
Under the Business Developer Agreement, the two companies will work cooperatively to attract Thoroughbred Software International's extensive VAR channel to Digital's platforms, and to increase understanding and awareness within Digital's sales channel of the fullness of Thoroughbred's line of Thoroughbred Software.
"We are extremely pleased to name Thoroughbred as Digital's first Business Developer partner in the lucrative small-to-medium-sized business marketplace," said Peter Mercury, marketing manager for Digital's Worldwide Small and Medium-sized Business Activities. "By combining Thoroughbred's software expertise and worldwide VAR channel with Digital's hardware and services strengths, you get a major force with which to grow more business in this $40 billion market that's expanding at some 20 percent a year."
"Thoroughbred's new association with Digital offers some exciting opportunities for our VARs," said E. Terence Bradunas, vice president of Consulting Services, Thoroughbred, "and should foster growth and profitability for all of us. A key to the success of the Thoroughbred Software line is its availability across multiple system environments. Thoroughbred products are available under DOS Networking, MS-DOS, UNIX, XENIX, ULTRIX, VMS, and other systems.
"That breadth of coverage, coupled with the depth of the software line, provides VARs in the Digital world with development capability that spans very robust and diverse system architectures. Add to that Digital's strong sales and support commitment to this marketplace, to SCO UNIX, and to connectivity through Network Application Services (NAS), and the total offering lacks nothing in product and service," added Bradunas.
Digital's new Business Developer Program is the latest example of Digital's commitment to growth in the small-to-medium-sized business marketplace. The goal is to establish business relationships with major software houses, such as Thoroughbred, to cooperatively attract their VARs to Digital's platform. "The net result is win-win-win," said Mercury. "The software houses sell more licenses, their VARs sell more product, and Digital sells more hardware and services."
