THOMSON ADVISORY GROUP APPOINTS IRWIN F. SMITH AS CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

 STAMFORD, Conn., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Thomson Advisory Group L.P. (NYSE: TAG) announced today that Irwin F. Smith has been appointed chairman and chief executive officer, succeeding Donald K. Miller, who will continue active as vice chairman and a board member. Mr. Miller is chairman of Greylock Financial Inc. and has served as interim chairman and CEO since the management buyout of the controlling interest in TAG in November 1990. Robert A. Prindiville will continue to serve as president and chief operating officer of the Partnership with primary responsibility for the Mutual Fund Group, including its distributor, Thomson Investor Services. Mr. Smith will continue as chairman of the Columbus Circle Investors and chief investment officer of TAG L.P.
 The board stated that the new management alignment is designed to set the stage for the long-term future operation and continued growth of TAG L.P. In connection with the appointment, Mr. Smith's contract was amended and extended to Dec. 31, 1998 and includes, among other terms, a provision to acquire up to 500,000 new Partnership Units. The purchase price of such units is dependent upon future cash distributions.
 Mr. Smith is 53 years old and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, receiving both a BS in Economics (1962) and an MBA in Finance (1964). Between November 1971 and December 1974 he was deputy treasurer- chief investment officer for the State of Connecticut. Previously he was a portfolio manager with Bank of America's Trust Department. He joined Columbus Circle Investors in 1975, which was then part of Gulf + Western, and lead this group in joining the predecessor of TAG in January 1985.
 TAG L.P. serves as advisor to private accounts through its Columbus Circle Division and manages the Thomson Fund Group and Cash Accumulation Trust mutual funds. As of Feb. 28, 1993, total assets under management were approximately $9.3 billion.
